HOW TO     Some of us have never left a comment on a fic before, and that's okay. Some of us are afraid to, because the fic has been published for a long time, because the author hasn't replied to other comments, because we're shy, or uncertain. We are a diverse group of humans that all have our preferences and our worries! All we ask with this fest is that you try if you'd like to participate. If you're struggling with how or what to comment, a thank you for writing is enough. Telling the author you loved the prose/dialogue/atmosphere, or anything that caught your attention or your heart. It can be the smallest thing that stayed with you!Comments don't have to be long and overly complicated (although they can be if you so wish). At the end of the day, comments are simply there for us to express appreciation for a piece of work an author spent a lot of time crafting for the fandom. There are no rules for how you decide to approach it, as long as you do it with kindness!

RESPECT     Unless the author has stated being open to concrit, please refrain from using this fest to deliver criticism in comments. While it is sometimes appreciated by the authors, this fest has been created to encourage more comments, more fics, and more discussion around fics in a positive environment.

NO SIGN-UPS     This fest doesn't require signing up for. We will have different small challenges throughout time, and some might involve getting in touch with you (a bingo, for example), but participation is completely open. You also can participate for one portion of one challenge, but not the whole thing. We are only here to encourage more comments, not restrict anyone!

NO MONITORING     The mod team will not go check on any comment, nor on what type of fic you are commenting on. We will not be policing fic rating, tags, ships, or anything of that nature.

SHARING     We'd like to encourage sharing your fic finds, snippets of fics that you've loved, comments that you've found meaningful, etc. with us, and with each other! This fest is meant to be a starting point to grow our community, to make new friends, discover new works and have fun with ficdom.Always link back to the fic you're mentioning, you never know if it couldn't become someone's new favorite fic!

Okay, but what do I get out of this?
You get to make a positive impact on the fic community! Comments often are extremely rewarding for authors, that then are more motivated to keep writing, to finish that fic you've been reading every week, to go back to a story they want to share. And commenting can be really fun, and get you to meet new people, start chatting with the fic author, or share what you love with like-minded people.
I've already commented on a fic that fits the challenge, what do I do?
That is up to you! You can go look at the author's other works to see if another one would work for the challenge, but you could also just leave a second comment on the fic! We'd like to encourage people to not worry too much; a second comment stating that you loved the fic so much you are coming back for more would be loved.
I'd like to participate and comment, but I don't have an Ao3 account and the author doesn't allow guest comments.
Please get in touch with the fest mods, and we can hopefully get you an invite code should you still need one.
Do I have to follow the challenge theme?
No. The theme is simply to help guide anyone who needs a helping hand, or a little push. We encourage comments all the time whether or not they fit the theme of the current challenge!
Do I really have to comment every day?
No, not really. It's part of the challenge and the fun, but if there is a day you just can't find a fic to comment on, there is no obligation.
Can I comment on more than one fic a day?
Of course! The more comments the merrier!
Does it have to be an &team fic?
No! While this fest and its challenges are geared specifically towards fostering a community for &t for writers and readers, feel free to use the challenges as a springboard to comment on any fic you'd like.
Can I comment on a fic that isn't on Ao3?
Absolutely yes! Tumblr, wattpad, twitter, ao3, or anywhere else you read fics.
